Summer Is Here! Or is it?

At least on the calendar it says it is. By mid-May we can have, and have had, several toasty hot days already. We also can have, and have had, a return to very chilly weather. This is the schizophrenic world of Chicago weather during this time of year. Several sunny days and the city starts having daydreams of barbecues and baseball games. This can be a head fake handed down from Mother Nature for sure. Combine the last few days of chill with mega downpours of rain and you have all the ingredients for a sense that summer has come and gone already.
Fear not, Midwesterners! This happens every year and we have to keep our eyes on the prize. The many long months of cocooning through winter and fighting off cabin fever are just about done. One or two days of cold can’t stem the tide. Flowers will bloom, baseball games will be played, the smell of barbecues will fill the air, and the sun will light the sky over the city. The sweet sound of outdoor music will be everywhere.
One thing that has not been curtailed in spite of any such weather fake outs has been this: wedding and special event season is upon us!
